Organizations gather to address youth homelessness

The first conference in the Heartland dedicated to the serious and growing issue of youth homelessness was held in Kansas City on September 12. The circumstances that result in a youth becoming homeless are unique and varied, but trends are identifiable and best practices exist. The agenda provided information about data trends, tools, and strategies that are proven to work to end homelessness among youth.

"Prison Pipeline" solutions to be discussed at Sept. 30 summit

A summit on "Breaking the Prison Pipeline" will discuss solutions and resources to prevent incarceration, advocate for rehabilitation services, and aid in community re-entry.

The summit will be held on Saturday, Sept. 30, 9 a.m.-12 p.m., at Central Academy of Excellence, 3221 Indiana Ave., Kansas City, Mo. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Breakfast and lunch will be served.

Advocates plan Aug. 30th KC event on children and family issues

Missouri Children’s Leadership Council (MOCLC) and the Local Investment Commission (LINC) will host a listening session to gather feedback on child well-being issues impacting our community. The listening session will be held Wed., Aug. 30th at 3 pm at the Kauffman Foundation, 4801 Rockhill Rd., Kansas City, Mo. 64110

At the event, the Missouri Children’s Leadership Council will review actions impacting children and families during the recently concluded state legislative session.

HCF to host community forums in service area

The Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City is in the midst of conducting a five-month series of community forums within its service area.

The forums serve as an update for stakeholders and the community at large on the happenings at the Foundation, and to solicit feedback on how the Foundation can partner with communities to more fully improve health.

A summary report outlining what we heard throughout these conversations will be shared at the conclusion of the forums.

HCF's service area includes Kansas City, Mo., Cass County, Jackson County, and Lafayette County in Missouri, and Allen County, Johnson County, and Wyandotte County in Kansas.

Fairmount Plaza Senior Apartments celebrates 15th anniversary

The Fairmount Plaza Senior Apartments will celebrate its 15th anniversary with an event on Friday, June 23rd at the apartments located at 615 S. Huttig, Independence, Mo.

The fish and chip dinner will include residents in the project and also several city, local and other officials involved in construction of the $4.2 million project, which was one of the first major new investments in western Independence in the early 2000s.

Governor appoints new Dept. of Social Services Director

Steve Corsi, current Director of the Wyoming Department of Family Services, has been selected as Missouri’s new Director of Social Services (DSS) by Gov. Eric Greitens.

Corsi has a doctoral degree in clinical psychology and worked in the private sector as CEO of High Country Behavioral Health and worked as a Clinical Director in many other roles. He is an officer in the Army National Guard and spent nearly a decade in active Air Force service.
