Summer food program reduces food insecurity

The U.S. Dept. of Agriculture recently released a major evaluation of a summer food demonstration project for which LINC is one of a handful of selected demonstration sites. The federal demonstration project is exploring ways to address food insecurity among children during the summer months when school lunches are not available.

Community comes out for Melcher school extravaganza

Over 100 attendees participate in free health screenings, safety information, entertainment and food at Melcher Elementary Caring Communities End of Summer Extravaganza July 25.   

Melcher is one of LINC's 24 Caring Communities sites in the Kansas City Public Schools. The new school year starts in mid-August.

Special summer reading program highlights

The Kansas City Star featured a special summer reading program in a Kansas City apartment complex.  The program, supported by the University of Missouri-Kansas City education department and LINC, is taking place at the Stoneate Meadows apartment complex in east Kansas City.
