KCPS Celebrating Successful Launch of Breakfast In the Classroom

Kansas City Public Schools and Operation Food Search are ready to celebrate their joint efforts to help children get the most important meal of the day so that they can focus on the important work of learning. KCPS received $477,742 in grant funding for 25 schools serving 12,500 students to introduce Breakfast in the Classroom (BIC) breakfast service.

Organizations gather to address youth homelessness

The first conference in the Heartland dedicated to the serious and growing issue of youth homelessness was held in Kansas City on September 12. The circumstances that result in a youth becoming homeless are unique and varied, but trends are identifiable and best practices exist. The agenda provided information about data trends, tools, and strategies that are proven to work to end homelessness among youth.

Jenny Mendez announced the 2017 Gladstone Hero

Gladstone Elementary students recognize Jenny Mendez as their "hero" in a special school project.The students each year pick an individual or community leader whose life the students will study. The students interview the individual, make posters and then produce an original video about the selected individual.

KCPS earns high marks on path to full accreditation

For the first time in about 30 years KCPS has earned the points to become a fully accredited school system. This year's APR is the latest in a remarkable comeback for KCPS. The school system's APR results have improved by more than 75 points in just four years, and the results increased 8.5 points over 2015 totals.
