Kansas City Public Schools honored Wendell Phillips Elementary School Principal Deloris Brown as the district’s Principal of the Year at its annual awards banquet in April.

The district’s Division of Academics selected Brown for her sustained ability to address the individual academic, social and emotional needs of her students. Phillips Elementary is consistently one of the best performing neighborhood schools in KCPS on Missouri’s Annual Progress Report.

The district also honored East High School teacher Diane Mora as the teacher of the year. Mora teaches English and literacy to students with limited proficiency in English.

Brown has been an administrator in the Kansas City Public Schools for 15 years. Her first teaching assignment was in a full time Adult Education Program in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She has been a business education teacher, special education resource teacher and business resource teacher.
