Lights On Afterschool gathering steam; take a peek at the fun

The Lights On Afterschool road show is picking up steam, heading into the peak of events at the end of October.

In just a sampling of the shows going on in LINC’s Caring Communities (there’s more to come), we’ve seen Mad Science, pizza parties, dancing grandmas and other creative costumes, raucous fitness fun as well as some joy of reading.

Activities are happening at most of LINC’s more than 40 before- and after-school program sites in the Kansas City Public Schools, Hickman Mills, Grandview, Center and North Kansas City school districts and Lee A. Tolbert Community Academy charter school.

Hartman’s Sharon Washington shows the garden LINC’s kids grew to add to their special Lights On dinner.

We’ve got video and photo peeks at Ervin, Ingels, Butcher-Greene and Hartman elementary schools just for starters. See a full schedule at kclinc.org/lightson.

All of the events are part of the celebration of the role of after-school programs in community schools that unite families, strengthen neighborhoods and bring joy and imagination to children.

Stay tuned. There’s more to come.
