LINC partnership connects students with the arts
LINC is developing partnerships to give area underserved youth opportunities to experience live theater.
This year over 600 LINC students from three school districts (Kansas City, Hickman Mills, and Independence) have attended performances at the Coterie Theater and the Music Hall thanks to a partnership between LINC and the Jackson County chapter of The Links.
The Links provides performance preparation classes for the students, who typically have had no previous experience attending live theater performances. LINC helps to recruit students through its Caring Communities initiative providing support for underserved families in area schools. Theater tickets are provided through a grant from the Theater League, and LINC provides transportation to the performances.
Students from Van Horn High School in the Independence School District recently attended Motown: The Musical as part of the initiative.
