Chess expands in number, geography

The LINC Chess program continues to expand, both in number of students and geographically.

Two days after the first Kansas City snow storm, 40 girls and their families trekked to Border Star Montessori to compete in the second annual Girls’ Tournament, held Saturday, Feb. 23. Photos from the tournament are on the LINC Chess Facebook page.

LINC organized the tournament to encourage girls to hone their chess skills in a male-dominated arena.

In April LINC will host its first K-12 tournament in the North Kansas City School District.

In the past two years LINC has expanded its program into three NKC schools: Chouteau, Maplewood and Topping elementary. Three North Kansas City high school students also LINC Chess instructors. A video about the program in that district is available online at www.kclinc.org/chess
