Independence to celebrate Cinco de Mayo

Independence will hold a Cinco de Mayo celebration Sunday, May 5 from 1-4pm in McCoy Park.

Those who attend will be able to enjoy fun family activities, free food, and live entertainment.

The Hispanic population has been growing steadily in the western Independence and northeast Kansas City region for several years.

Organizing this celebration is recognition of this trend and an effort to reach out to families where they live, work, and go to school. The groups organizing the event include the Local Investment Commission, the Northwest CDC and the two public library system serving Independence.

Community resources will be available in English and Spanish, and the Kansas City and Mid-Continent public libraries will have free bilingual books to give away.
