Here we come! Caring Communities Day Aug. 10 to unite city in pride, joy
LINC’s Caring Communities Day — Version 3.0 — just gets bigger and better.
All the free food, entertainment, music, dancing, games, prizes and family resources return Saturday, Aug. 10, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Morning Star Youth and Family Life Center on the corner of 27th Street and Prospect Avenue in Kansas City, Mo.
It's a big party with a big mission, say LINC’s event managers Danisha Fultz and Drake Bushnell.
“It’s a day to come together with families and get resources and enjoy a fun time with neighbors,” Bushnell said. “It’s for kids and adults of all ages. All our partners are invested in Kansas City.”
Everyone can enjoy the grilled hamburgers and hot dogs and frozen treats by Frosty Frogs Water Ice. And the face painting, and game tournaments with dazzling prizes, the dancing with music by DJ Techni Cal, a community mural art project, big raffle prizes and the Chiefs’ KC Wolf.
But there will also be free school supplies, a host of service providers with help like health screening, legal assistance, gun locks and safety, utility bill assistance and voter registration.
“The prizes are geared to help with the educational and household needs of families,” Fultz said. “(Caring Communities Day) is a good place to get something you need — like school supplies, utility assistance and household needs. You can come have fun and take away something you need.”
The event is supported in part by the Kansas City Neighborhood Tourist Development Fund, heading a long list of partners.
Other partners at Caring Communities Day will include University Health, the Kansas City Zoo and Aquarium, LINC Chess, Urban TEC, KC Digital Drive, Essential Families, Turn the Page KC, Justice in the Schools, Goodwill, Grandparents for Gun Safety, Heart to Heart International, Community Action Agency, BikeWalkKC, the League of Women Voters, the Kansas City Police and Kansas City Fire departments, Giving Hope and Help, the Black Archives of Mid-America and Corvette Connected KC with their classic cars.
There will also be opportunities to meet local legislators and city officials who plan to drop in.
Most of all, it’s a gathering of friends and neighbors and visitors to celebrate together and move confidently into the school year and fall season ahead.
“Back-to-school is a stressful time for families,” Bushnell said. “It’s a challenging time and this is a way to help with the transition from summer and getting back to school.”
Welcome back, everybody. Caring Communities Day is for you.
