TeenTix KC opens top theater and arts experiences to youth for only $5

Start the music. Raise the curtain. Teenagers, this is for you.

Kansas City is piloting a TeenTix program that is giving teenagers opportunities to attend top Kansas City shows for only $5 a ticket.

The website, teentix.org/kc, provides links to current shows partnering with the program and information on how to secure the bargain tickets.

Opportunities to buy TeenTix depend on tickets being available on the day of a show, but partners anticipate having many seats ready to accommodate TeenTix buyers.

Currently, shows offering TeenTix options include Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Coterie Theatre, Trouble in Mind at the Kansas City Actors Theatre, Creative Intersections by the Owen/Cox Dance Group and West Side Story at Starlight.

And there is more to come, said TeenTix KC project leader Martin English. The program has launched in Kansas City as part of the TeenTix program that started in Seattle in 2004 and expanded to Los Angeles.

TeenTix KC provides another avenue for promoting the arts with young people for English, who was the executive director of Kansas City Young Audiences. LINC has partnered with KCYA for many years to bring arts programming to LINC’s Caring Communities sites in area school districts.

Now LINC is also partnering with TeenTix to make more connections between youth and art.
