As more vaccines become available, state and local health officials have been working to make the vaccines more accessible — particularly for residents in some of the city’s more vulnerable, underserved neighborhoods, said Jackson County Executive Frank White in the announcement from Missouri Gov. Mike Parson’s office.

“Easily accessible events with a substantial number of vaccines are essential to the safety of our residents who need and deserve it,” White said. “This is especially true for our communities of color who have been devastated by this dangerous and deadly disease.”

White thanked Missouri Gov. Mike Parson and added he expects there will be more mega vaccination events.

Several agencies have united to make the event possible, Parson said, including the Jackson County Health Department, Truman Medical Center, The Kansas City Chiefs' Organization, and the KCATA.

"By working together, we will ensure that every Missourian who wants a vaccine will have the opportunity to receive one,” Parson said.

LINC has been collaborating with Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church and the Missouri National Guard to deliver more than 5,300 vaccines in March, focusing on neighborhoods with critical need surrounding the church’s location at 27th Street and Prospect Avenue.

The Arrowhead event will speed relief to more residents who have been trying to get a Covid-19 vaccine.

The event is expected to run from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the stadium on both the 19th and 20th, delivering some 3,000 doses each day. If more vaccine shipments come, the number could grow, the state announced.

The Arrowhead event will be distributing the Johnson & Johnson Janssen vaccine, which requires only one shot without a booster, unlike the Pfizer and Moderna vaccinations that require two shots.

The online signup lists are being used to contact people for vaccination opportunities at this and other events ongoing around the area. So Missourians should sign up even if you can’t make the Arrowhead event, because there are and will be other vaccination opportunities.

"We are working as quickly as supply will allow to meet the higher vaccine interest in our urban populations while still keeping vaccine distribution equitable across the state," Parson said. "This mega vaccination event will provide an additional opportunity to assist local vaccine providers in meeting the higher vaccine demand of the Kansas City region, and we have begun planning a similar event in the St. Louis area."

Beginning Monday, Missouri will move into Tier 3 of its vaccination priority system. Among the people who will become eligible are teachers and childcare workers. The state is already vaccinating anyone 65 and older, people with certain medical conditions and health concerns, plus people working in health fields and emergency responders.
