Energy utility bill assistance to double, go year round

Energy Assistance Program

The Department of Social Services announced the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), Energy Assistance (EA) program will now be available year round. The benefit, which helps Missourians with heating and cooling bills, has also been doubled for those who are eligible. The EA benefit amount will depend on the fuel type:

If a benefit has already been issued, a new benefit will be issued to cover the additional amount.

Energy Crisis Intervention Program

In addition, the maximum benefit amount through the Energy Crisis Intervention Program (ECIP) will be $1,600 for Winter ECIP (previously $800) and $1,200 for Summer ECIP (previously $600).

Eligibility

To be eligibile for help, you must:

  • Be responsible for paying home utility costs

  • Have $3,000 or less in your bank accounts, retirement accounts, or investments

  • Be a U.S. citizen or legally admitted for permanent residence

  • Meet or make less than the State Median Income Guidelines:

How do I apply?

To apply for help, complete and submit a LIHEAP Application and any documents the application asks for to your local contracted agency by mail or online. For more information about LIHEAP visit the DSS website.
