Free child care available for KCPS families and staff members

Please note that these in-person childcare options may be affected by health department guidance throughout the fall. 

Kansas City Public Schools is partnering with the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City to provide high quality school-age childcare free-of-charge for KCPS families and staff members.  

This childcare service will be provided for children in Kindergarten through Grade 6 from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. It will include transportation, meals and daily instructional time from 8:20 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. to help students with our KCPS virtual or distance learning models. The service will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 8 and will follow the KCPS 2020-2021 academic year calendar. Childcare sites will be spread across the community at the following locations:  

KC Parks & Rec:

  • Brush Creek Community Center (3801 Emanuel Cleaver II Blvd.)

  • Southeast Community Center (4201 E. 63rd St.)

  • Garrison Community Center (1124 E. 5th St.)

  • Gregg/Klice Community Center (1600 John Buck O’Neil Way)

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater KC:

  • Thornberry Unit (3831 E. 43rd St.)

  • Wagner Unit (2405 Elmwood Ave.)

KCPS parents, guardians and staff members can now register their school-age children for one of these childcare options by contacting each provider at the following links:

LINC will enroll students in free before- and after-school programming when schools start having some students in classrooms. Currently LINC is enrolling students at Topping Elementary in North Kansas City Schools. Pre-enroll here.
