LINC takes voter registration to the streets

“We have three types of people in this world,” LINC Site Coordinator Darryl Bush told the Sunday afternoon crowd by Kansas City’s Spirit of Freedom Fountain at Brush Creek.

“(There are) those who make things happen. Those who watch things happen. And then you got those that don’t vote and don’t know what happened.”

A doubled-down effort to register voters throughout LINC’s communities went to work at the One Love celebration June 28.

In its mission to help build strong, healthy neighborhoods, LINC also stressed the importance of getting a complete count in 2020 Census, and continued to urge qualifying families to take advantage of special pandemic food benefits in Missouri.

LINC’s campaign to register voters is riding on the back of organizations already doing this work, including Vote.org, 866-OUR-VOTE, and the Patrick Mahomes and Lebron James-led effort, More Than a Vote.

LINC is making registration and sharing election information as easy as possible at its voter registration page — kclinc.org/vote.

And Sunday’s message, Bush said, went out not just to unregistered voters to sign up, but just as importantly to all the registered voters to take the message and links to voter information web pages and urge family, friends and neighbors to register and vote.

“Every time they tell you, ‘I don’t have anyone to vote for’ — that’s an excuse,” he said. “Every time they tell you, ‘I don’t believe in voting’ — that’s an excuse. We are no longer accepting excuses.”
