The end-of-the-year celebration of the Giving Grove’s harvest brought fans together again, virtually.

The Giving Grove turned its gathering into an online, YouTube event Dec. 1 to watch the premier of a celebratory short film and share reactions on the past year.

The Giving Grove partners with schools and community groups to plant thousands of fruit bearing trees and gardens in its mission to provide healthy calories, strengthen community and improve the urban environment.

Locally, working with Kansas City Community Gardens, the program serves 202 sites, including several LINC Caring Communities programs. The Kansas City orchards total more than 3,300 trees with a potential annual harvest of more than 2.8 million servings.

The film premier will be a fitting way to reflect on the past year’s success despite the difficulties of the pandemic.

“To say this was a year with many obstacles would be an understatement,” reads the Giving Grove’s promotion of the film. “But what you will (see) in this film is that despite the obstacles of 2020, Giving Grove little orchards still grew community, health, knowledge, and friendship.”
