Attucks students learn history through theater

Third through fifth grade students from Crispus Attucks Elementary in the Kansas City Public Schools learned about the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 in a special workshop presented by The Coterie. The students will later attend and participate in the play "And Justice For Some" presented by The Coterie this February.

The workshop involved several activities in which the students explored different perspectives of slaves, slave holders, and abolitionists. A recurring theme was the issue of justice and how the Fugitive Slave Act tilted the scales in favor of slave owners and southern states claims.
