KCPS Superintendent named Missouri superintendent of the year

Kansas City Public Schools Supt. Dr. R. Stephen Green has been selected Missouri Superintendent of the Year.

The top honor was conferred on Green during a meeting of the Missouri Association of School Administrators on  March 25 at the Lake of the Ozarks.

The district will hold a celebration and reception for Green on April 1 from 4-6 pm at the district's Central Middle School, 3611 E. Linwood Blvd.

This is the second recent recognition for Green, who has been district superintendent since 2011.

Students from Gladstone Elementary recognized Green as their 2014-15 School Hero.

The annual project honors local business and community leaders that have made an impact and go above and beyond the call of duty.

Missie Condit, vice principal at Gladstone Elementary, began the Hero Project in 2002 while at Primitivo Garcia Elementary. Past heroes have included a wide-range of individuals from Cesar Chavez to Ollie Gates.

As part of the project students were able to visit the KCPS Board of Education building and meet with Dr. Green to learn about the work he does.

They also performed a song, "Working On A Dream," and participated in making a music video directed by local musician Bob Walkenhorst.
