Woodland Early Learning Center has orchard planted through community effort
Woodland Early Learning Center was one of multiple schools Saturday, November 7 in Kansas City Public Schools which benefited from community volunteers and organizational partnerships.
Kansas City Public Schools, The Giving Grove, United Way, and LINC worked together with community residents to plant trees all along the school track at Woodland. These fruit and nut trees ranged from native Pawpaw trees to exotic fruits such as Asian pear trees.
"We're empowering neighborhoods to grow their own healthy food," said Robert Reiman, Executive Director of The Giving Grove. "There are a lot of people in Kansas City that live month-to-month, sometimes they have food in the fridge and sometimes they don't. This is a way to empower them to grow their own healthy food."
