300 LINC students participate in Girls on the Run 5K
Over 300 girls from 18 LINC Caring Communities Sites participated in the Girls on the Run 5k race on Saturday, Nov. 22, at Arrowhead Stadium. The youth were cheered on by parents and LINC staff during the race.
Students participating were from Crispus Attucks, Faxon, Foreign Language Academy, Melcher, Gladstone, Holliday, Rogers, Garcia, Wheatley, and Whittier Elementary schools from the Kansas City Public Schools; Burke Elementary and Smith-Hale Middle School from the Hickman Mills School District; Elm Grove and Indian Trails elementary from the Fort Osage School District; Mallinson Elementary and Bridger Middle school from the Independence School District; Maplewood Elementary from the North Kansas City School District; and Lee A. Tolbert Academy a charter school.
Designed to build self-esteem and fellowship, Girls on the Run gives elementary and middle school girls the opportunity to participate in empowering social activities to build self-confidence. The 5k run was the culmination of a 10-week after school activity series in the LINC Before & After School program.
