LINC Chess Year-End Tournament hosts 168 - Photos

The final chess tournament of the 2012-13 school year was held Saturday, May 4, at Hickman Mills Junior High School.

168 players from school districts all around the metro area came to show their skills against their peers. Students competed in one of three divisions, K-3, K-6, or K-12.

Several summer chess activities have been organized for students this year. Those who have attended at least one LINC Chess tournament may attend one of two week-long camps; beginner students can attend once-a-week sessions at two branches of the Mid-Continent Public Library; and families can learn to play and enjoy chess at family chess nights hosted at different branches of the Kansas City Public Library.

LINC sees chess as a way to teach valuable life skills to students such as critical thinking, perseverance, and sportsmanship.
