LINC continues to encourage and support reading and family literacy
Several reading initiatives are underway at LINC Caring Communities sites, partnering with local schools, the Kansas City and Mid-Continent Public Library systems, and other community resources.
Recently, over 400 adults attended a family literacy event at Maplewood Elementary in the North Kansas City School District. Children were able to take home a grade-appropriate book for their personal library and information on reading and family literacy was shared.
The event was paired with school’s parent-teacher conferences.
Other family literacy events are planned in the North Kansas City schools and LINC’s other partner school districts.
LINC is also working closely with Turn the Page KC– a community initiative organized by Kansas City, Mo. Mayor Sly James– to make sure children are reading on grade level.
