Fake genetic test scheme seeks Medicaid, Medicare information for identity theft

State officials are warning service providers of a genetic testing scheme happening in many states, including Missouri.

Scammers are offering individuals cheek swabs claiming it is for genetic testing, but their intent is to obtain Medicare or Medicaid information for identify theft or fraudulent billing purposes. Fraudsters are targeting beneficiaries through door-to-door visits, booths at public events, health fairs, and telemarketing calls.

KCPS Celebrating Successful Launch of Breakfast In the Classroom

Kansas City Public Schools and Operation Food Search are ready to celebrate their joint efforts to help children get the most important meal of the day so that they can focus on the important work of learning. KCPS received $477,742 in grant funding for 25 schools serving 12,500 students to introduce Breakfast in the Classroom (BIC) breakfast service.

No Kid Hungry supported by world’s biggest bake sale and carnival

LINC has partnered with the American Society of Baking and No Kid Hungry to support efforts to reduce child hunger in Missouri. The World’s Biggest Bake Sale will be held on Saturday, September 15 from 9:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. under the big white tents south of Commerce Bank at 6336 Brookside Plaza, Kansas City, MO 64113.

Children's Mercy identifies food insecurity as a significant health need

Food insecurity is still a widespread issue in Kansas City. Margo Quiriconi, Director of Community Health Initiatives for Children’s Mercy Kansas City, spoke at the April 16, 2018 LINC Commission meeting. The Annie E. Casey Foundation has released its annual KIDS COUNT Data Book detailing the latest national rankings of states across 16 key measures within four domains including economic well-being, education, health, and family and community.

Governor appoints new Dept. of Social Services Director

Steve Corsi, current Director of the Wyoming Department of Family Services, has been selected as Missouri’s new Director of Social Services (DSS) by Gov. Eric Greitens.

Corsi has a doctoral degree in clinical psychology and worked in the private sector as CEO of High Country Behavioral Health and worked as a Clinical Director in many other roles. He is an officer in the Army National Guard and spent nearly a decade in active Air Force service.

2015 KIDS COUNT data book published

Missouri ranks 26th in the just released 2015 KIDS COUNT national data book. Missouri showed improvement in education and health rankings but worsened on child poverty measures, children in single-parent families and children living in high-poverty areas.
