Children's Mercy identifies food insecurity as a significant health need

Food insecurity is still a widespread issue in Kansas City. Margo Quiriconi, Director of Community Health Initiatives for Children’s Mercy Kansas City, spoke at the April 16, 2018 LINC Commission meeting. She discussed issues that have been identified by the community as priority and significant health needs in their latest guide The State of Children’s Health.

Area festival LitUp celebrates young authors and artists

The 2018 LitUp Festival will be held on May 12th at the North Independence Branch of the Mid-Continent Public Library in Independence, Missouri. It will be an all-day event that features nationally known authors and illustrators and includes panel discussions, writing and illustrating clinics, a writing contest, a poetry slam, music and food trucks!

The main focus of the meeting will be a discussion of opioids in Missouri featuring Todd Hixson, US Drug Enforcement Administration, and Kimberly Sprenger, Dept. Health & Senior Services

The wellbeing of Missouri's Children is improving, depending on where they live

Missouri’s Family and Community Trust (FACT) has released the 2018 Missouri KIDS COUNT Data Book, intended to identify the needs of children and families throughout the state. The book is available at mokidscount.org.

Missouri KIDS COUNT uses outcome measures and contextual indicators to rank Missouri counties. Counties then use that information to find and address needs in their communities.

Eight LINC Schools will join the 2nd Annual Kazoo Marching Band this Saturday

LINC students from eight different schools will march in the Kazoo Marching Band as part of the 2018 Brookside 38th Annual St. Patrick's Warm-Up Parade this Saturday, March 10 at 1:30 p.m.LINC programs from the Kansas City Public schools that are participating are: Banneker, King, Hartman, Holliday, Border Star, Hale Cook, Troost and ACE Lower Campus.

LINC Site Coordinators recognized by Missouri AfterSchool Network

LINC Site Coordinators Danielle Small and Matt Uppman were recognized as Staffers of the Month by the Missouri AfterSchool Network. The recognition will be given at the Afterschool Celebration Conference on March 2nd and 3rd at Tan-Tar-A Resort, Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri.

Pastors in the Pool to Make a Big Splash

Pastors in the Pool is a six-week program to teach urban core church leaders how to swim, water basics and water safety. The hope is for the pastors to have conversations regarding water safety and awareness in their communities to help make Kansas City residents safer in and around water.

Student Mobility in the Kansas City Area

In 2015, researchers with the Kansas City Area Education Research Consortium completed a significant local study on student mobility.

LINC adds Grandview Middle as new Caring Communities site

LINC expanded its Caring Communities initiative to Grandview Middle School in January.

Expansion to the middle school has been a long-time goal for the Grandview School District and LINC.

Mural by José Faus unveiled at Woodland Early Learning Community School

An amazing mural by local artist José Faus was unveiled at Woodland Early Learning Community School in the Kansas City Public Schools. The mural depicts several cultural and literary themes that reflect the diversity of the northeast neighborhood around the school.
