What is LINC?
The Local Investment Commission (LINC)℠ is a citizen-driven community collaborative involving efforts by the state of Missouri to work with neighborhood leaders, citizens, business, civic and labor leaders to improve the lives of children and families in the Kansas City region.

LINC was created in 1992 and is primarily state-funded. LINC gained additional organizational flexibility by becoming a 501c3 nonprofit in 1994. Today, LINC is a striking example of how a citizen-led community intermediary can successfully coordinate the delivery of child, family and senior support services while forging connections between neighborhoods and government agencies.

LINC embraces the community school model, calling its effort Caring Communities. A community school is both a place and a set of partnerships between the school and other community based organizations. In these schools, an integrated focus on academics and family support, health and social services, and youth and community development leads to improved student learning, stronger families and healthier communities.
Through the Caring Communities initiative, LINC has a presence at neighborhood school sites in seven school districts -- Center, Fort Osage, Grandview, Hickman Mills, Independence, Kansas City, MO and North Kansas City.
LINC is also involved in initiatives to provide job training and education to those on TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families), childcare subsidy services, childcare training, and foster youth mentoring and development.
