Some LINC neighborhoods targeted for 3,500 Covid vaccines: Here's how to sign up

A joint campaign to take Covid-19 vaccines to underserved and vulnerable populations is targeting several LINC neighborhoods.
Step one: sign up online with the Kansas City Health Department or call 3-1-1.
The campaign with Walmart and the YMCA at the beginning will be reaching out to eligible people within the east Kansas City ZIP Codes of 64127, 64128 and 64130. Other ZIP Codes could be added later, a city spokesman said.
The targeted part of the city roughly runs from 9th Street on the north to 63rd Street on the south, and from Woodland Avenue on the east to Topping Avenue on the West.
LINC schools that lie within the targeted ZIP Codes are Wheatley, Phillips, Whittier, Melcher, Carver and Genesis.
The city chose the three ZIP Codes that experience the lowest life expectancy in Kansas City — indicating neighborhoods with more residents who are vulnerable to more severe impact from Covid-19’s spread.
City staff will contact eligible people in those ZIP Codes if they have signed into the city health department’s online Covid survey or registered on the phone by calling 3-1-1.
The vaccinations will be given to people as they become eligible for a vaccine according to the state’s ranking system that prioritizes people at higher health risk and whose jobs put them at higher risk.
As of Feb. 24, Missouri is vaccinating Phase 1A, Phase 1B – Tier 1 and Phase 1B – Tier 2 populations.
Tier 2 includes: Anyone aged 65 and older. Adults of any age at risk because of illness such as cancer, chronic kidney disease, COPD, heart conditions, weakened immune systems, certain diabetes and other conditions.
The next group to be added will be Tier 3, which includes people involved in K-12 education, childcare, communications infrastructure, information technology, food and agriculture and more.
The 3,500 targeted vaccines will be given over the next six weeks at an undisclosed location. The supply is limited and no walk-ins will be accepted. The city will contact eligible people and provide the details to get the vaccine.
Depending on the demand and increased availability of vaccines, the city may expand the targeted area. So all Kansas City residents are urged to sign up on the city’s survey. Other surveys are available statewide and by county. Residents can and should sign up for multiple lists where they are eligible.
Other vaccine efforts are ongoing and more will be added throughout the city and the state, so everyone is urged to sign up now.
