The show will go on (and the prizes!) at virtual Hickman Mills Family Summit

Don’t worry. Things you love about the Hickman Mills Family Summit will be right at your finger tips as the show goes on virtually March 6.

Including the wealth of prizes.

“Not holding the event wasn’t a consideration,” said Hickman Mills School District spokesperson Marissa Cleaver Wamble.

Ruskin parent Terrika Evans, above, was one of last year’s prize winners. The prizes will be back this year, but you have to register and attend online on the day of the event, March 6, by going to the district’s Virtual Family Summit page.

“It took some work, but we found a way to provide families with information on important resources virtually,” she said. There will be virtual booths and live Zoom options including “the Mad Scientist and KC Young Audiences.”

One part of the summit will be in-person — a wellness fair for families looking for help with dental needs, free screenings, vision and hearing tests and blood pressure checks.

The wellness fair will be open at Smith-Hale Middle School, 9010A Old Santa Fe Road, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with services provided by Swope Health and Hope Dental.

Having the wellness fair in person was important, Cleaver Wamble said.

“What we’ve heard from health care providers is that families have missed critical health services,” she said, “so we wanted to provide that option for families.”

The rest of the summit’s attractions will take place on the district’s Virtual Family Summit page throughout the day March 6.

The page will offer attractions and events in the categories of health, community resources, a job fair, Kid Zone and schools information.

And there will be chances to win the prizes provided by LINC as in years past. (“LINC never disappoints by providing amazing prizes for our families,” Cleaver Wamble said.)

Registration begins online at 9 a.m. on the Virtual Family Summit page. Families must register and virtually attend the event on March 6 to be eligible for the prize drawings. Winners will be announced live on the district's Facebook page at 12:30 p.m.

Winners will receive an email on how to pick up their prizes.

Being virtual lends some advantages, too, like no time constraints. The fair and the presentations by the virtual booths will be available beyond March 6.

Keeping things safe: The in-person wellness fair

Here’s how the district will keep everyone safe at the wellness fair:

  • Visitors will undergo health screening and temperature checks upon arrival.

  • Event staff will monitor to keep families distanced from other families by at least 6 feet.

  • There will be no mingling or congregating in between groups or parties.

  • Staff will sanitize all frequently used common surfaces.

  • Entrance and exits will be monitored

  • Seating will be provided and spaced a minimum of six feet apart in all directions

  • Foot traffic will be one-way along walkways and aisles

  • Masks will be required by visitors and staff and volunteers at all times except for participants while they are receiving dental cleanings.
