State offering relief to food stamp recipients who lost food in tornadoes, floods

Jefferson City, MO— Missourians who lost food purchased with their Food Stamp/Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits due to a recent tornado or flood will now have until June 24 to report their loss to the Family Support Division and receive replacement benefits. This extension comes after the United States Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Service approved the request from the Department of Social Services to waive the 10-day reporting requirement for replacement benefits.

“We are doing everything we can to support families who are recovering from these disastrous situations,” said Jennifer Tidball, Acting Director, Department of Social Services. “Our team is responding as quickly as possible to minimize the impact of the additional hardship these families are facing.”

To report a loss and begin the process of receiving replacement benefits, the Food Stamp household or an Authorized Representative must complete and return the Replacement Request Form by June 24. Completed forms can be submitted to the Family Support Division (FSD) by faxing it to 1-573-522-6220, or by dropping it off, or mailing it to any local FSD office.

If a recent tornado or flood has displaced a family and the family is in need of child care services, they may be eligible for child care assistance due to being homeless (includes residing in a shelter or staying with relatives/friend). Contact the Family Support Division to learn more.
