The 2016-2017 EPFP Cohort concluded their program with presentations on education policy on issues such as student mobility and access to post-secondary education.

The Local Investment Commission and the Cooperating School Districts of Greater Kansas City in 2014 revived an outstanding educational leadership development program available nationally through the Institute for Educational Leadership.

This effort, known as the Educational Policy Fellowship Program (EPFP), is coordinated by former Missouri Commissioner of Education Bob Bartman and Gayden Carruth, who leads the Cooperating School Districts.

EPFP is a 10-month in-service professional development program for emerging and mid-level leaders. In the past three years, LINC has selected eight staff members to be EPFP fellows learning, networking, and developing policy papers with school superintendents, principals, non-profit leaders, and others directly involved in education or serving children and youth.

The program includes monthly assignments and structured learning experiences at the Command and General Staff College in Leavenworth, Kan., and at the White House Decision Center at the Truman Library in Independence, Mo. The capstone event is a four-day trip to Washington, D.C., to meet with fellows from across the country, learn about federal policy making, and meet with local U.S. Congress members and staff.

EPFP is an important leadership development program resulting in greater collaboration among organizations while developing leaders.
