Bring your lawn chairs and blankets to Hill Park, 23rd and Maywood Ave., this Saturday, Sept. 24, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., for the 2016 Independence Heritage Festival.

This year's event features a skateboard competition as well as entertainment, food and vendors.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a donation for the featured charities, Blue Ridge Baptist Church Community Mission and Hill Crest Transitional Housing. Suggested donations include canned tuna, chicken or salmon, canned fruit, facial or toilet tissue, hair brushes, cleaning rags, toiletries, and diapers.

The event sponsors are IHRC, Missouri Arts Council, Independence Ethnic Council, City of Independence, and Corporate CopyPrint.
