Free food, family fun and more at upcoming Cinco de Mayo celebration

Families and residents of Independence, Missouri are invited to attend the second annual Cinco de Mayo celebration to connect with local resources, enjoy free food and entertainment, and to connect with fellow citizens of Independence.

From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., over 20 local organizations will be available to connect with residents while 14 musical acts will be performing throughout the day.

There will be presentations from Independence High school students, The history of Cinco de Mayo, The Mexican Hat dance, Venezuelan dances of the coast and the Andes, and Spanish classical guitar music and singing.

Mayor Eileen Weir will speak to the community during the event. 

Northwest CDC and Local Investment Commission are organizing the Cinco de Mayo celebration again this year to connect with the diverse families in Independence where they live, work, and go to school.

Bilingual community resources will be available to attendees.
