Gov. Nixon signs new child welfare legislation

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon was in Kansas City on Wednesday to sign legislation creating new standards for child care providers and improving children's welfare in the state.

He also signed legislation that included a bill giving child welfare workers more time to investigate child abuse hotline allegations. His signature came one day after the Missouri Supreme Court ruled that the state’s child welfare agency shouldn’t face court punishment if investigations are overdue.
