T.B. Watkins continues to support L.P.

Over 250 out of 300 T.B. Watkins residents on Aug. 1 celebrated another birthday party in honor of former resident, L.P.

L.P., now 12 years-old, is the girl found locked in a closet in a T.B. Watkins apartment last year.

Residents now show support to L.P. by celebrating her birthday with a party open to the community every August 1 - her birth date.

"We plan to throw a party each year for the 11 years she was in the closet," said Dorothy Burrell, resident and party coordinator.

L.P., who had not had a birthday party previous to last year, was remembered again by the T.B. Watkins community.

"She never had a birthday party before and we're doing this to show our appreciation and let her know that there people out here that do care " said Tiara Whitely, tenant representative.

Hot dogs, hamburgers, and birthday cake were available to children and families who donated a gift or a monetary donation for L.P.

Party activities included a bouncy house, Python Drill Team performance and live entertainment by rap artist: D-WHIT.

In celebration of L.P. and the T.B. Watkins community, organizations were present to connect with children and families.

Kansas City Zoo set up tables for children to view items such as ostrich eggs, paintings created by a Kansas City Zoo ape, and the opportunity to pet a lizard.

Clymers Community Garden donated sweet potato pie to the event and had health information and local vegetables available to the public.
